Flamenco for Beginners with Allison at UofA
September 19 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, repeating until December 5, 2023
Flamenco is an art form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the gitano subculture of the region of Andalusia. Its roots start in the 18th century and extend to this day, where aficianados carry the tradition forward. In the past 50 years, the term is used to refer to a variety of both contemporary and traditional flamenco styles typical of southern Spain.
This art form beautifully blends dance, song, rhythm and expression for a unique expression. In this beginner course, you will learn compass (the base rhythms of the songs of Flamenco), body posture, arm carriage and foot work. You will learn bulerias choreography (festival dance). If you can walk, you can dance flamenco.
Dates: Tuesdays at Van Vliet building of the University of Alberta Studio 2-650.
September 19th to December 5th, 2023 (No class on November 14th.)
