The Benefits of Being Here and Now: An Introductory Workshop on Mindfulness and Vipassana Meditation with Allison Ulan B.F.A.
December 11, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us. While mindfulness is an ability we all naturally possess, it is more readily available to us when we practice it on a daily basis.
Mindfulness meditation is a practice based in the use of a focus of attention to train the mind. This training allows our mind to be aware of its actions as they unfold. As our mind learns to rest and focus, the witness aspects of our mind becomes flexible to meet all mental states with curiosity, kindness and patience. This leads us to developing resilience to meet our experiences with calmness, acceptance and discernment.
In this introduction session, you will learn:
– the history of mindfulness meditation, what the benefits of mindfulness are,
– how to use your breath as a meditation anchor,
– the fundamentals of meditation practice and
– how this 2500 year old practice trains our neurology to be resilient and adaptive.
After the presentation and practice period, there will be lots of time for questions and answers.
